National Night Out a Great Success!
The joint Old North Durham/Duke Park event for National Night Out was a great success! Reporters from the Herald Sun and News and Observer came out and got quotes from neighbors and took a some pictures.
Chuck Davis and his African Drum Ensemble led the parade from Bay-Hargrove Park in Old North Durham to Acadia street in Duke Park where the procession ended at Dan Read's house for a potluck with beverages and conversation.
National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen community spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a message to criminals that neighborhoods are organizing and fighting back.
National Night Out is an annual event that occurs on the first Tuesday of August every year. Put it on your calendar for next year - we look forward to seeing you!
